There’s been a lot of hubbub lately about these Obay ads that have been appearing around Ontario. People have been confused as to their intent and what they’re meant to advertise; so I thought I would clear up some of the confusion.
These ads were my attempt to culture jam against culture jamming. Culture jamming usually takes on the form of turning media against its intended purpose; using the media to satirize that which it was originally intended to portray. This is an attempt to turn that concept on its head, and satirize the concept of using media to satirize that which it was originally supposed to represent. Confusing? Perhaps.
Sadly, Obay is not a real product, and I’m sorry to all those whose hopes I had raised through this campaign.

a fake testimonial for a fake ad campaign…nice.
What the hell are you talking about? My child is on the stuff right now, works pretty good too. Don’t give them too much though, they’ll start wearing your clothes and shit.
Yeah, so that’s bullshit. It is an ad campaign for Ontario Colleges… Viral marketing for the win!
